Sagar Alias Jacky - Movie Review

Review-Sagar alias Jacky
Mohanlal's highly hyped "stylish action thriller" Sagar alias Jacky- Reloaded directed by Amal Neerad, is all style and no substance!

This film promised to be the mother of all stylish films made in India. But sadly, director Amal Neerad clearly lacks a story and the skills required to turn that idea into an engaging film.

There is a sense of déjà vu as Amal has rehashed certain scenes, locations and characters from his earlier Big-B, and the end product looks like it has fallen off straight from the assembly line of stylized gangster movies like Musafir, Billa, D Company etc.

Where is the story Mr. S.N Swamy? Sagar alias Jacky (Mohanlal) is an international operator who outsmarts rivals like Naina (Suman) through his guts and determination and always emerges triumphant. However he has a problem to be sorted out in Kerala, where the Chief Minister's (Nedumudi Venu) son-in-law, a good for nothing guy and his childhood friend Manu (Manoj.K.Jayan) is kidnapped. Manu's wife Indu (Shobhana), finds that the Kerala Police is dragging its feet over it as their loyalty is with her elder brother Hari (Ganesh), a budding politician who wants to inherit his fathers political legacy.

Indu requests Sagar to bring back her husband who is held in Goa by the notorious gangsters Rozario brothers (Tamil villain Sampath, and the long haired bearded guy who played main villain in Big-B). Sagar flies in to Kochi, in his personal jet along with his 4 member gang.

They take on the Rozario brothers; rescue Manu which leads to more trouble with a host of baddies like Rahul Dev and ends with a final shoot out in a resort. For some romance and songs there is a television news reporter Aarathy Menon (Bhavana), who tries to investigate and expose Sagar and ends up falling in love with him and paying a prize.

At times you get the feeling that Swamy has remade his K.Madhu directed Irupatham Nootandu, which was a far better entertainer. In fact, this film is the perfect example of the new style of film making being followed by young directors in south fed on Hollywood and Bollywood DVD's. First decide and design action sequences, exotic locations, costumes and then write the story around that.

It's an opportunity lost, as Mohanlal the most flexible actor in Indian cinema is asked to look wooden and walk throughout wearing designer coats and leather jackets, which after a point of time becomes predictable or plain boring and agonizingly snail-paced. Jagathy Sreekumar is wasted while Jyothirmayee's item dance fails to sizzle.

Added to that the director has employed the regular technique used by Ram Gopal Varma, Sanjay Gupta and others to make their film look stylish - ramping technique, wide-angle lenses, top angle shots, sepia-toned photography, sharp cuts and a jarring loud background fearless, edgy action thriller is ultimately only a half-decent enterprise because it lacks a strong story. You can watch it only because it's a new format but for most parts prepare to be seriously bored.

Verdict- Average

  1. Irupatham Noottandu was a superb movie. K.Madhu and S.N.Swamy had done superb movie for us.

But 'sagar alias jacky' is really a crap. It is a replication of "Big B". Amal neerad is still at the hang over of 'Big B'. He used to take same types of shots, location, casting, etc... But 'Big B' had stuff; 'sagar alias jacky' doesn't have this. 'S.N.Swamy' what happened to u? Why have you written like this a story less film?

Starting of sagar alias jacky was not bad. Then Mohan Lal started walking, approchmetly he walked 20 KM. Then started shooting, the last shot was to our/fans hearts. Many luxiurois cars were used for this movie, Hummer, Prado, Pajeero, etc... Costume was not good. Mohanlal’s apperance remembers ‘Uncle Bun’. Costumes were good at the last film "Red Chillies'.

Story of 'sagar alias jacky' is villans kidnapped Mohan Lal's fiend (Shobana) husband (manojKJayan). Police failed to save him, so 'sagar alias jacky' came to Kerala and escaped him. This happed in the first half and hour of the film. Then.............. At last Mohan Lal killed the villan(Suman). In the fill in the balnks nothing has to write, because this is a story less film. But in between this, there is a small love story with Bhavana. She was a press reporter. She was behind sagar alias jacky, then she realized sagar alias jacky is a respectful person. But Villans killed her also. At the starting of the film Suamn was the friend of sagar alias jacky, but last mohan Lal killed him too.

Jagathy's telugu comedy was really unbearable. Jyothirmayi's item dance didn’t make any feels in theatre. Cinematography was good. But some scenes, it was really irritating. Amal Neerad used to take down shots, left side shots, right side shots, Crain shots, etc... But for what, we didn't understand.

Antony Prumbavoor was also in the film (Arabi). At lat we saw one more thing; Mohan Lal's son is also walking. Find out, Go and watch the ‘Sagar Aliyas Jackey’. If you have not seen yet, go fast otherwise you may never get a chance to watch 'sagar alias jacky'.

  2. it's a good movie, sagar alias jacky entirely diffrent movie according to big b,in bigthere was local cottation ,but in sagar underworld game, and dialouges are very good ,standard dialougues ,more stylish movie

  3. it is gonna be a trendsetter in malayalam film industry... SAJR seems like it is an english movie... Good Work Amala Neerad

  4. The movie is a absolute nonsense, rubish and ugly style of laal , laal looks like an elephant

  5. SAJ is a mega flop film. It cannot be compared nowhere near to BIG B. laal’s appearance is very ugly and in some scenes he looks like an elephant. Story is very poor as a usual recent laal films. Laal has tried hard imitating mamooty’s style in Big B, but poor guy failed to do that.

  6. would have been better if film was named as "UNCLE BUN RELOADED"

  7. should be renamed uncle bun reloaded....Really..Mohanlal looks to be the father of Bhavana in the movie...The songs are Ok...and the cinematography, cars etc r fine...But the Climax is a disaster....Its just throwing a bomb into the Villain's boat...Over..all over....Wht a film is this? Anyway the film will manage to get collect commendable revenue...Enthayalum SAGAR ALIAS JACKY RELOADED old filminte vila kalanju

  8. anyways its an amazing movie..
    it lacks content..
still amal neerad has done a good job.
choreography and cinematography is realjagathyly good. also the actions..

although jagathy's comedy is a bit boring.. lalettan's dialogues are striking and than the BIG B for sure!

    lal has great styl

altogether it is gonna be a DUPER hit..

  9. I agree that this film has no content, but lal done a gr8 job Amal's camera is ok but direction is a little bit boring..Songs are nice..But dont insult lal with comparing bigB,coz everyone knows that and lal proved several time..that he isw an outstanding actor..No doubt..Its fact..not for arguements

  10. nalla kidilan angles..are really good.....almsot comparable to hollywood actionthrilers in style..but mohanlal is not maintaining his body.....atleast oru thorthukondu vayaru valichu onnu ketyveykamayirunnu......bhavanyude sabdam vera la vachu dubb cheythilarnengil..ethilum no good at all...lalettan oru carinta agathekku valinju kerunna scene undallo...athilninnum enginayanavo porathekku vannathu...
